Residents from Mamre have one more week to comment on the local neighbourhood plan

The City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews met with the leadership and community members on Thursday evening, 9 December 2021, to discuss the proposed Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) for Mamre and to urge residents to comment on the draft neighbourhood plan by 15 December 2021.
‘I was pleased with the turnout at the community meeting on Thursday as it was very important to me that the Mamre community understood what the intention is with the proposed Local Spatial Development Framework. That it is a tool that highlights opportunity areas for Mamre and provides development guidelines for the future growth of this special and unique area. I believe that the residents of Mamre, especially, could provide very valuable input if they are to partner with us and assist by commenting on this local neighbourhood plan. The LSDF will guide the future planning of their town, which I know, they are deeply rooted in,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
The purpose of the local neighbourhood plan(spatial development framework) is to formulate a vision, related policy guidelines and propose intervention projects that will assist in establishing an inclusive and vibrant neighbourhood, to create a sense of belonging and place making through the restructuring and integration of this neighbourhood with the surrounding areas.
The draft LSDF provides guidance for short to medium and long-term spatial and investment planning, taking into account Mamre’s unique qualities and challenges. The draft neighbourhood plan will provide more detailed local area planning, and land use and urban form guidelines for decision making.
The draft LSDF takes into account the natural environment, agriculture, heritage, culture and tourism, the built environment, employment and land ownership. Once approved, the LSDF will provide guidance on development, which includes enhancing town entrances, encouraging the retention and rehabilitation of its historic fabric and the promotion of non-motorised transport, such as walking and cycling.
The closing date for comments on all three LSDFs is 15 December 2021.
